Retirement Account (IRA)

If you own an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) and are over age 70 and a half, you are eligible to receive tax benefits if you transfer up to $100,000 directly from your IRA to Habitat for Humanity - Ozaukee. The transfer will count toward fulfilling your required minimum distribution from your IRA and will not be considered part of your gross income for federal tax purposes.

 

 

Simply contact the financial services company that serves as your IRA custodian and let them know that you would like to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution to Habitat for Humanity Ozaukee from your IRA.

Stock giving

Securities and mutual funds that have increased in value and been held for more than one year are popular assets to use when making a gift to Habitat for Humanity Ozaukee.  Making a gift of securities or mutual funds offers you the chance to support our work while realizing important benefits for yourself.

When you donate appreciated securities or mutual funds in support of our mission, you can reduce or even eliminate federal capital gains taxes on the transfer. You may also be entitled to a federal income tax charitable deduction based on the fair market value of the securities at the time of the transfer.

Securities are most often used to support our work in the form of:

 

An outright gift. When you donate securities to Habitat for Humanity Ozaukee, you receive the same income tax savings that you would if you wrote a check, but with the added benefit of eliminating capital gains taxes on the transfer, which can be as high as 20%.

 

A transfer on death (TOD) account. * By placing a TOD designation on your brokerage or investment account, that account will be paid to one or more persons or charities after your lifetime.

Donor advised fund (DAF)

A donor advised fund (DAF), gives you the flexibility to recommend how much and how often money is granted to Habitat for Humanity Ozaukee and other qualified charities. You can recommend a grant or recurring grants now to make an immediate impact or use your fund as a tool for future charitable gifts.

 

You can also create a lasting legacy by naming Habitat for Humanity Ozaukee the beneficiary of the entire account or a percentage of the fund. With a percentage, you can create a family legacy of giving by naming your loved ones as your successor to continue recommending grants to charitable organizations. Contact your fund administrator for a beneficiary form.

Bequest or Wills

Planning for the future and creating the legacy you wish to leave is one of the most effective ways to ensure a lasting impact. Making a gift in your will or living trust, known as a bequest, can guarantee that your legacy endures. Your gift may be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate or the remainder after all other provisions are specified.

SAMPLE LANGUAGE

 

For an unrestricted gift that allows Habitat for Humanity - Ozaukee to determine how to use the funds based on the most pressing needs, use the following language for your will and/or trust:

"I give to Habitat for Humanity - Ozaukee, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 2360 Dakota Drive, Grafton WI 53024, or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its unrestricted charitable use and purpose."

 

To designate your provision for a particular purpose:

 

"I give to Habitat for Humanity - Ozaukee, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 2360 Dakota Drive, Grafton WI 53024, or its successor thereto, ________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property]. This gift should be used for (state purpose) if and so long as Habitat for Humanity Ozaukee determines that the need exists. If Habitat for Humanity  -Ozaukee shall determine at the outset or at a later time that the need does not exist, or no longer exists or for some reason it is not possible (or prudent) to administer my gift as originally intended, then Habitat for Humanity - Ozaukee may, in its sole and uncontrolled discretion, direct the use of my bequest for a purpose related as closely as possible to that stated above."

 

If you have named Habitat for Humanity - Ozaukee in your will or trust, please let us know so we can ensure that your gift is used according to your wishes. Notifying us of your plans will enable us to plan for the use of your future gift. However, if you prefer to remain anonymous, we will keep your name and gift in strict confidence.
